New Testing and Data Tools Added to Sensus Version 2.0

Sensus Version 2.0 offers an expanded set of tools to make testing questionnaires simpler and working with respondent data more flexible. The following tools are now standard features of the Sensus Q&A core interviewing module:

Logic Tester

The Sensus Logic Tester lets you test your questionnaire logic - including skip conditions and mathematical formulas - for errors. As you create skip logic or formulas, you click Test in the Sensus logic editor. Sensus reports whether logic statements and formulas are valid, whether you have used any undefined variables, whether you have constructed any incorrect expressions, and so on. The Logic Tester, like a spell checker, relieves you of much of the burden of checking your work when using Sensus Q&A's logic capabilities.

Start-At-Question Indicator

This feature lets you test questionnaires starting at any question. At the beginning of a test interview you can display a list of the questions in the questionnaire and select the one you want to start with. The Start-At-Question Indicator lets you skip over the parts of the questionnaire you have already tested and go immediately to the new questions you want to test.

Interview Tracer

Sensus Q&A's new Interview Tracer displays a running log of interview results as you test your questionnaire. It shows the responses you enter for each question, all variable and formula values, the skip logic for the current question, and any skips that have already been executed. The Interview Tracer lets you verify that your skips are followed properly, that variables are being set appropriately, and that formulas are being evaluated correctly.

Interview Simulator

The Interview Simulator automatically runs your questionnaire for you and records the data. The simulator will automatically and randomly respond to your questionnaire as many times as you like. You can use it to test for holes in your skip logic and to generate valid data sets when setting up cross-tabs or other data analyses prior to fielding a study. The Interview Simulator lets you control the display speed of the interview, so you can also use it to run a "hands-off" demonstration of your questionnaire for clients or at conferences.

Data Editor

The Data Editor lets you edit respondents' numeric data. You can use it to change respondent numbers or to correct respondent mistakes that were not corrected during the interview.

Data Extractor

Sensus Q&A's Data Extractor lets you extract subsets of respondent data or rearrange variables in the respondent data file. Use the Data Extractor, for example, in omnibus studies to extract subsets of client-specific data for study sponsors. Or, in tracking studies, use the Data Extractor to maintain a standard data layout - even if questions are added or their sequence is changed.

In addition to these new features, Sensus continues to offer the following analysis capabilities: open-end coder, summary statistics, marginals, histograms, and two-way cross-tabs.

ADE Runtime Editor

The Sensus Advanced Development Environment (ADE) also offers an editor for testing ADE instruction scripts. ADE is an optional Sensus module that lets you develop questionnaire logic of any complexity with its scripting language; ADE gives you source-code-like control over the look and function of your Sensus interviews.

The ADE Runtime Editor lets you check your ADE scripts. You run the editor as you test the interview. It first scans your ADE script for violations of scripting language rules and shows both the location and a description of any errors. The editor then lets you execute the script while you observe its effect on the interview and monitor variable values and function calls. The ADE Runtime Editor lets you quickly pinpoint script errors and provides the information you need to correct them.
